A new drama for Ray Winstone and ITV.

ITV aren't the greatest channel at coming up with original ideas for drama.  That said, they at least seem to be trying now and that's a start.

Vincent sees them pair up one of their favourite actors Ray Winstone with soap escapee Suranne Jones in a drama about a private detective. They've done this kind of thing many times before, they've even done it before with Ray Winstone (anyone else remember the pilot Palmer back in the late 80's, early 90's - though that was played for laughs and this is a more darker offering ).

Vincent, unfortunately doesn't offer anything new to the genre. Vincent himself is a troubled character with the obligatory baggage of an ex-wife and an inability to draw moral boundaries. ITV bleated on about the sexual chemistry between Jones and Winstone before the episode aired, no doubt as an added incentive for viewers to turn in, but if there was any, I must have blinked and missed it.  Jones gave a very uninteresting performance - she was probably the least interesting and least well rounded female character in the show. Winstone seemed to be sleep-walking in a role he has played a hundred times before.  My only real pleasure was that he did not attempt another god-awful northern accent even though the series appears to have been set "oop north".

The series will hopefully develop and give a chance for the characters to develop out of two dimensional stereotypical hell, but this being ITV, I won't hold my breath.
